Life or Death

“For the payoff of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Romans 6:23 NET

I've been a Christian for most of my life, in fact I really don't remember any time in my life where I wasn't a Christian. I know that around the age of 8 I accepted Jesus as my Savior, but I don't really remember much of my life before then. I find it odd that this morning, when I read Romans 6:23 that I finally realized what Jesus did for me, in fact I think most of us Christians take for granted what Jesus did for us and don't really recognize all that He did for us. I must have read that scripture thousands of times and I've even taugth on this, but this morning, today, after nearly 45 years of walking with Christ, I finally got it. Because of what Jesus did, I no longer have to face death, I no longer have to wonder what will happen to me when I die, I no longer have to be separated from the loving Father, I know that because of Jesus' sacrifice on the cross, I have life...forever! I have a relationship with the Father...forever! I felt the Holy Spirit tell me this morning that knowing this deep inside of me will make changes in my behavior. These changes will make others want to know Jesus, which is one of the reasons why we are here on this earth to begin with, to help others know Jesus. When you really realize the scope of what Jesus did for you, your behavior, your way of thinking, the way you conduct yourself behind closed doors and in front of others will change. You will not only want to know Jesus more and more, but you will be the catalyst that will urge others to know Jesus.

Take Away: take a moment to read and meditate on Romans 6:23 and let the Holy Spirit reveal to you exactly what Jesus did.
