Shoes of Peace

And having shod your feet in preparation [to face the enemy with the firm-footed stability, the promptness, and the readiness produced by the good news] of the Gospel of peace. (Ephesians 6:15 AMP)

The apostle Paul wrote Ephesians while in prison, and while he was there he had plenty of time to study the Roman soldier's uniform. Its no wonder why he said we need to put on the shoes of peace. The shoes the Roman soldier wore had spikes on the bottom of them, anywhere from 1/2 inch to 3 to 5 inches in length. These spikes kept them stable and solid when attacked by an enemy. What Paul was saying here is that we need to keep our peace (be emotionally stable), because when we do, we will remain stable, i.e. we will control our emotions and not the other way around. When our emotions control us, we are all over the place (unstable). For example,  if you are having a good day, and then suddenly the dog pees on your carpet and you start yelling and scolding the dog, then your emotions are controlling you. If you have just shoveled snow out of your driveway, and then you turn around and see the city plow just passed by your house and pushed a mound of snow into your driveway and you throw a fit, then your emotions are controlling you. Make a decision today, right now, to start walking in peace, no matter what your circumstances are. If you decide to walk in peace, then you will be able to handle any situation with stability of mind and emotion.
